Harvard Summer School (HSS) seeks one Senior Activities Coordinator (AC) for the Student Activities Office (SAO) serving a diverse population of students in the General Program (GP) and Secondary School Program (SSP). The GP & SSP Senior AC will be responsible for planning programming and assisting in the selection of SAO staff for the GP and SSP Activities Coordinators during the spring semester and for running the Student Activities Office throughout the summer. The SAO provides engaging opportunities across specialty areas such as film nights, health and wellness events, off-campus trips, special events, athletics, college readiness workshops, virtual college admissions programming, and virtual volunteering.
Position Description
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and Residential Life, the GP & SSP Senior Activities Coordinator (AC) will gain valuable leadership and student affairs experience while planning engaging in-person and virtual programming for the upcoming summer session. The Senior AC will also collaborate with the Pre-College Senior AC to provide oversight and guidance for SAO programming across all student populations. The Senior AC’s responsibilities include assisting with program planning, hiring processes, event logistics for the 2026 summer session, organization of event and training materials, and management of the SAO office. Upon acceptance of the position, the Senior AC is expected to complete pre-assigned work, attend online meetings, and participate in training sessions. The Senior AC is required to arrive on campus by 4:00 PM on Monday, June 8, 2026, and remain in residence until mid-afternoon on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Spring Responsibilities (Remote)
Collaborate with the Assistant Director to define the program’s vision and strategy for the upcoming session.
Assist with the recruitment and hiring process for GP & SSP Activities Coordinators and College Readiness staff, including managing applications.
Support event planning and logistics for the 2026 summer session.
Coordinate with HSS partners to secure event tickets.
Manage and maintain program information on the Blackthorn platform (event management tool), ensuring all details are accurate and ready for the summer.
Contribute to the planning and development of training for Activities Coordinators and College Readiness staff.
Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with your supervisor to review progress and receive guidance.
Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
Summer Responsibilities (In-Person)
Supervise, train, and evaluate the GP & SSP Activities Coordinators, ensuring they are equipped to perform their roles effectively.
Participate in an on-call rotation to address program or event-related concerns.
Co-lead weekly staff meetings with the Pre-College Senior AC to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Oversee the use and management of Blackthorn, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Foster and maintain a positive, inclusive, and productive office culture in the fast-paced HSS environment.
Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with your supervisor to review progress and adjust priorities as needed.
Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
Commitment
Hours:
Spring semester (remote): Approximately 10–14 hours per week.
Summer term (in-person): Full-time (~40 hours per week).
Dates of Employment:
Remote Spring session: Early February – August 2026
All-Staff Orientation: Please mark your calendars for this mandatory pre-summer orientation taking place on Friday, June 6, 2026, 10:30am-12:00pm.
In-Person Summer session: Sunday, June 8 – Saturday, August 9, 2026
The Senior AC must arrive on campus by noon on Sunday, June 8, 2026, and remain in residence until mid-afternoon on Saturday, August 9, 2026.
Orientation and Training:
Spring session: Virtual meetings beginning in February.
