Youth Development Professional/Mass Communications

TITLE: Youth Development Professional/Mass Communication 

PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Youth Development 

DEPARTMENT: Programs 

REPORTS TO: Teen Services Director  

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION 

Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate programs and activities within the core program areas. 

 

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities) 

 

Prepare Youth for Success 

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. 

Promote and stimulate program participation. 

Participate in the new member orientation process. 

Provide guidance and role modeling to members. 

 

Program Development and Implementation 

Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of members, quality programming, and appearance of the Club. 

Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of members, quality of programs, and appearance of the Club. 

Prepare periodic program/activity reports. 

 

Supervision 

Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly staff meetings. 

 

Additional Responsibilities 

May participate in special programs and/or events. 

 

MASS COMMUNICATION & MEDIA RESPONSIBILITIES 

Integrate basic mass communication and media concepts into youth programming, including digital storytelling, media literacy, and creative expression. 

Support youth in the creation of age-appropriate media projects such as video, audio, photography, podcasting, and digital content. 

Assist with capturing photos, videos, and written content from programs and events for internal documentation and external storytelling purposes. 

Provide guidance and supervision to youth using media equipment and technology, ensuring safe, responsible, and appropriate use. 

Teach and model effective communication skills, including collaboration, presentation, and storytelling. 

Support workforce readiness by exposing youth to careers in media, communications, and creative industries. 

Collaborate with program leadership to align media activities with organizational goals, branding, and youth development outcomes. 

Ensure all media activities comply with organizational policies related to safety, consent, and appropriate content. 

Assist in mentoring interns or volunteers participating in media-related programming when applicable. 

 

RELATIONSHIPS 

Internal: 

Maintain close, daily contact with Club Staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisors to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instructions, and advise/counsel. 

 

External: 

Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems. 

 

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED 

High School Diploma 

Experience working with children 

Knowledge of youth development 

Must be 21 years or older

Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems 

Ability to deal with the general public 

Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth 

Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment 

Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications 

Valid State Driver’s License/State ID  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Ability to stand for long periods of time 

Ability to participate in games and activities with members
