Senior Institutional Research Analyst and Visual Developer
General Purpose:
The Senior Institutional Research Analyst and Visual Developer, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, strengthens data‑informed decision‑making by leading the design, user experience, and delivery of institutional dashboards and analytical tools. The role provides advanced technical expertise, supports campus users through training and consultation, contributes to data governance, and ensures the quality and consistency of departmental data efforts.
Job Functions:
Lead the design and user experience of institutional dashboards, including UX standards, accessibility, and quality review of analyst‑developed products.
Collaborate with academic and administrative units to understand reporting needs and translate them into effective dashboard and data solutions.
Lead training programs, workshops, and documentation to support dashboard adoption, data literacy, and effective use of BI tools.
Serve as a primary resource and mentor for analysts and campus Power BI users.
Coordinate dashboard rollouts, including user communications, release notes, and leadership‑facing summaries.
Develop and maintain Power BI themes, templates, and reusable components to support consistent, branded reporting.
Create and review Data Cookbook specifications for dashboards and datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with institutional definitions.
Build and optimize data models and analysis‑ready datasets using SQL, SPSS, SAS, or similar tools, and conduct complex analyses to support institutional planning and student success initiatives.
Participate in BI project planning, contributing to requirements gathering, timeline development, and deliverable scoping.
Participate in data governance activities and recommend improvements to BI processes, tools, and workflows while staying current with emerging analytics and visualization trends.
Support recurring institutional reports, dashboards, and publications, ensuring quality and alignment with data standards.
Responds to internal and external ad-hoc requests with accuracy and efficiency.
Perform special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions:
Coordinates activities with University officials at all levels through participation on committees, and through consultation.
During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
Required Qualifications
Master's and 1+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
Departmental Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience with Power BI and SQL.
- Experience with relational databases.
- Experience in designing reporting systems.
- Experience developing dashboards and data visualizations.
- Experience with Enterprise Reporting Platforms such as Banner or Workday.
- Experience working in a higher education setting preferred.
- Good written, oral, and analytical skills.
