Special Events Internship

Spring 2026 Special Events Internship

Begin Date: January 2026

End Date: Flexible

Working Hours: Up to 20 hours per week. Exact times are flexible.

Required Hours: All event days and each Sounds on the Square performance

 

SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the event operations of the Parks and Recreation Department. Job responsibilities include assisting with developing, coordinating, and implementing city and community events in various locations throughout the City. This internship will begin in January 2026.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Aide Specialist and Supervisor with event planning, execution, set-up, and clean-up. Planning involves a significant amount of creative work including drawing event signage, making decorations, and planning the children's craft for the events.
  • Coordinate the Sounds on the Square series, which involves booking performers and working each performance (select Fridays each month for 2 hours).
  • Research for potential vendors, sponsor and community outreach opportunities.
  • Upkeep, organization, and monitor inventory for event equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in resolving participant complaints by recording complaints and referring to appropriate source.
  • Aide as directed by running reports and compiling information for reporting.
  • Drive City vehicle to various locations to assist with event marketing and planning.
  • Provides public information about City of Carrollton activities and events. Communicates with citizens regarding specific event information and answers questions.
  • Process credits, refunds and transfers for activities, events and rentals. Acquire and apply software registration system, run reports and rosters.
  • Attend meetings as assigned by Community Events Supervisor.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Knowledge in event planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of basic PC skills and Microsoft applications.
  • Skilled in public/employee relations and problem solving, ability to make sound decisions quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to enforce recreation policies and procedures.
  • Ability to explain and promote programs, memberships and special events to the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in, or graduated from, a university or community college
  • Maintaining a 2.5 GPD or better
  • Must pass pre-employment Drug Screen

 

PREFERENCES:

  • Bilingual
  • Enrolled in Event Management, Recreation, Hospitality, or Marketing program.
  • Six Months customer service or event experience

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is not typically performed in a standard office environment. Depending on area of assignment, mainly work will be in outdoor environments, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions or driving to various locations.
  • Sits for extended periods of time while performing daily duties such as recording fees or filing, following up on phone calls for reservations or event vendors, etc.; stands, bends and walks while distributing supplies, equipment and checking park and event locations.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Lifts and moves equipment such as tables, chairs, bleachers, large boxes, mats, nets, etc.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

  • Must be able to work varied schedules days, evenings and weekends – some Saturdays will be required.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must pass Criminal History Check.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record Check.
  • Must possess or obtain CPR/FIRST AID card and obtain AED Training within first six months.
