Description: The mission of the University of California Berkeley Housing and Dining Sustainability (H&DS) team is to use student-led advocacy, auditing, and peer education to make sustainability accessible and appealing to the UC Berkeley community, improve housing & dining infrastructure, and work towards more ethical and environmentally sound practices.
The Food Literacy Coordinator leads creative, education-focused initiatives that help students understand where their food comes from, how Berkeley Dining sources ingredients, and why sustainable food matters. This role blends storytelling, design, communications, and vendor engagement.
Essential Projects & Duties

Dining Hall Education
- Create signage, recipe cards, posters, and nutrition/sustainability content.
- Work with the Communications Coordinator to produce content for sustainability newsletter and help draft plant-forward education materials.

Vendor Spotlights
- Attend farm and production facility tours.
- Film and create short videos for social media and dining hall displays.

MCURC & Academic Integration
- Support the Diet Diversity project and other MCURC student-led collaborations.
- Support the Diet Diversity project and other MCURC student-led collaborations.

Creative Content Development
- Identify opportunities for new storytelling formats (zines, displays, videos).
- Work with Communications on high-quality visual material.

Intern Supervision
- Mentor a small team of interns working on educational outreach.
Administrative Duties
- Meetings with supervisor + Food Literacy team
- Keep up with emails and deliverables
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Interest in food systems, communications, or sustainability
- Strong design or storytelling skills
- Creativity + organization
Preferred:
- Canva/Adobe proficiency
- Social media or video editing experience
- Experience with community education
