Communications & Radio Production Intern

Location: Hybrid – On-site at the station (Mon, Wed & Fri), occasional remote tasks
Compensation: Unpaid (Academic credit eligible)
Start Date: Mid-January thru late May
Duration: Spring Semester

About the Opportunity

This internship offers hands-on experience inside an active Caribbean-focused radio station with opportunities to support live broadcasts, show production, field remotes, and digital media creation. Interns will work directly with on-air talent, producers, and the station’s community-facing programming. This role is ideal for students studying communications, journalism, media studies, broadcasting, digital marketing, or anyone seeking real-world experience in a professional media environment.

Key Responsibilities

Radio Production Support

  • Assist with live in-studio recording sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Operate or shadow basic studio equipment (mics, soundboard support, monitoring audio levels).
  • Support live remote broadcasts, including setup, breakdown, and assisting the on-site host team.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes footage for social media during approved segments.

Audio & Video Editing

  • Edit short-form audio and video clips from weekly radio segments.
  • Prepare clips for social channels (Reels, TikTok, Shorts, FB).
  • Edit interview segments and on-air moments for station archives.
  • Organize, label, and maintain clean asset libraries for both the station and host content.

Digital Media & Social Content

  • Assist with posting schedules, reels, and show highlights across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Draft captions, timestamps, and short promotional descriptions for segments.
  • Support analytics tracking (views, engagement, growth trends).
  • Contribute ideas for fresh content angles that reflect Caribbean culture and music.

Research & Editorial Tasks

  • Conduct background research for weekly topics, artists, and cultural discussions.
  • Help compile fact sheets, mini-scripts, and talking points for the hosts.
  • Assist in collecting community stories, event details, and updates relevant to the Caribbean diaspora.

Sponsor & Community Support

  • Help organize sponsor contact sheets and outreach documentation.
  • Assist with coordinating community events, cultural activations, and promotional street teams.
  • Support preparation for station partnership packages and presentations.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a college/university program (or recent graduate seeking experience).
  • Strong interest in radio, podcasting, media, or communications.
  • Ability to attend on-site shifts Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Basic familiarity with editing software (Premiere, CapCut, Audition, or similar) is helpful but not required.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
