Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Surveillance Coordinator

Develops, maintains, and coordinates a regional surveillance system for the detection and reporting of Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) cases. 
Conduct surveillance visits to all hospitals, outpatient clinics, physician offices, laboratories, and health department clinics in assigned surveillance areas. Obtains case reports on new cases and updates information on cases that have been previously reported. Uses International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding, lab reports, hospital discharge data, and other special recording systems to enhance HIV/AIDS surveillance. Follow all Department of Public Health (DPH and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security and confidentiality policies.

Conduct surveillance visits on pediatric cases (>13 years old). This includes follow-up on children born to HIV/AIDS infected mothers to determine serostatus and children under 13 years old that had HIV/AIDS testing and completing all necessary paperwork associated with cases. 
Investigate HIV/AIDS surveillance on unusual or specialty cases, Cases of Public Health Importance (COPHI), Death Certificate Matches, Molecular HIV Surveillance (MHS), Cluster Cases, Fetal Infant Morality Review (FIMR) cases, and cases with No Identified Risk (NIR) as time permits.

Conduct routine quality assurance surveillance activities including quarterly screening lists, birth registry match and death certificate matches to identify new cases. Maintain rapport with all providers at hospitals, outpatient clinic, physicians, laboratories, and health department clinics in assigned area. Complete other duties as assigned. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s degree and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Knowledge of the epidemiology and treatment and diagnosis of HIV/AIDS. Employee must have the knowledge, skills and ability to review medical records, and lab reports. Employee must maintain strict confidentiality standards to ensure protection of medical records and HIV/AIDS surveillance forms. Microsoft Office experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with HIPAA protected medical information.  Experience working with HIV/AIDS medical information.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.

HYBRID WORK: The option to work partially remote or adjusted work hours may be available after 12 months of employment for approved positions.
