About the Job:

Taco Bell is looking for a Packaging Engineer Intern for a 6-month rotation out of Irvine, CA. This role is hybrid and 2-3 days onsite weekly, working the rest remotely. To be successful in this role you will ideally have consumer facing packaging experience or knowledge of a variety of different materials (understanding of flexible papers, flexible films, corrugated papers, plastic containers, etc.).  

The Packaging Engineer Intern will report to the Associate Manager, Global Packaging. This hands-on role will be responsible for supporting projects to deliver next generation sustainable packaging to our system. Requires out-of-the-box thinking. Must be comfortable with trying new things with rapid prototyping, testing, and redesign, yet have a pragmatic and results-oriented focus on business goals. Projects for this role will be highly visible in nature and require working closely with multiple cross functional groups including supply chain, marketing, product development, public relations, operations, quality assurance, etc.

  • Support technical packaging development for brand worldwide focusing on consumer facing packaging 
  • You will also help with sustainability initiatives/commitments 
  • Grow knowledge of different materials, substrates, and technical packaging applications
  • Support packaging development, cost savings, and innovation process from ideation to product launch
  • Coordinate and execute packaging product cuttings, testing, specifications, and competitive analyses
  • Coordinate Packaging Supplier Capability showings for a cross functional audience
  • Support results-oriented technical support to field operators and international markets on packaging inquiries and solutions

 

Must-haves: 

  • Pursuing Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering preferred or Mechanical Engineering 
  • 3 months – 1+ year of packing experience preferred 
  • Understanding/Knowledge base of a wide variety of packaging materials 
  • Ability to creatively problem solve and self-motivated
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written), technical aptitude, ability to explain complex scientific concepts to non-experts succinctly, ability to craft and edit reports
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree.

 

Pluses: 

  • Packaging Sustainability & sustainability legislation experience 
  • Basic knowledge in restaurant/retail operations, engineering, food processing, manufacturing processes, or retail preferred 
  • ArtiosCAD and/or AutoCAD experience
  • Excel and LCA tool experience
