LEAD WRITER: The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, a team in the summer wooden bat Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, is seeking an intern who is a college or graduate student and wants to serve as Lead Writer for its 2026 season.  The Thunderbolts play 40 games from early June to late July in the Washington, D.C.  area.

The Lead Writer will write and post-game summaries, game previews, features, and other team information on social media, particularly on the team’s website, on a regular basis.  The successful candidate will have experience in sports writing for college events, a knowledge of baseball, and possess a personal laptop, phone, or tablet for posting content.  The candidate will work mainly at night, be responsible for travel to all games assigned as needed, or work independently from home using data from the League’s statistical program, Point Streak.

The candidate will have experience on, or will learn, the Squarespace platform, so graphics can be included with the stories.

This offers a significant opportunity to earn valuable experience as a beat writer for a sports team in a major market.  Students pursuing a degree in sports journalism, journalism, or another related field are strongly encouraged to apply.  Experience in sports writing at the college level, or its equivalent, is preferred.  Candidate must be able to and know how to use all major social media platforms.

The job comes with a stipend of $500.
