Software Engineer Intern

Software Engineer Intern (QA & Test Automation Focus)

Location: New York, NY - Hybrid
Type: Part-time during the spring (5-10 hours/week) Full-time during the summer (35-40 hours/week)

About Us

‍We build cutting-edge digital tools for medics so they can save more lives.

At Muru, we push the limits of technology to tackle one of the largest problems faced by EMS — making medical decisions from guidelines that are scattered throughout multiple PDFs, printed documents, agencies, and websites. By building the “Siri of Protocols,” medics can now get the answers they need instantly, so every patient receives the highest standard of care.

Our clients range from the entire State of New York to the Department of Defense, reflecting the trust placed in our work at the highest levels.

We’re looking for a college student who’s passionate about quality engineering and eager to learn how software gets built, tested, and shipped in production. This role sits at the intersection of QA, test automation, and mobile engineering, giving you hands-on experience across the stack.

About the Role

As an intern, you’ll take ownership of ensuring the quality and reliability of our Flutter mobile app, starting with QA and test automation then growing into direct engineering contributions. The role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. The hours are part-time during the spring and full-time through the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Manual QA Ownership
  • Run regression and release testing cycles for our Flutter app.
  • Maintain a living set of test cases/checklists.
  • Log and track bugs with clear reproduction steps.
  • Test Automation
  • Expand automated testing using flutter_test, integration_test, or other frameworks.
  • Automate high-value workflows (e.g., onboarding, login, protocol lookup).
  • Maintain and update existing unit tests.
  • Write new unit tests to improve coverage.
  • Code Coverage & CI/CD
  • Generate code coverage reports and highlight gaps.
  • Integrate coverage reporting into the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Provide visibility into test health and testing completeness.
  • Engineering Contributions (Stretch)
  • Pick up low-hanging tasks and bug fixes in the production Flutter codebase.
  • Suggest improvements to developer workflows, CI/CD, and QA processes.

What You’ll Learn

  • To own a QA process end-to-end for a production mobile app.
  • To build and maintain automated test pipelines.
  • To write and organize unit, integration, and UI tests.
  • To integrate test coverage into CI/CD for visibility and accountability.
  • To contribute production-level code in Flutter/Dart.
  • How startups ship software quickly while maintaining quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • Student actively working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or any other technical field.
  • Some familiarity with Flutter/Dart (projects, coursework, or curiosity — not necessarily production experience).
  • Interest in QA, testing, and automation.
  • Willingness to learn about CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitrise, or similar).
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to document findings clearly.
  • Excited about growing into a broader engineering role over time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Why Join

  • Be the go-to person for QA and testing in a real-world mobile app.
  • Gain experience that blends SDET responsibilities with engineering exposure.
  • Contribute to a mission-driven product that supports frontline workers.
  • Learn directly from a small, experienced team and see your impact immediately.
