Policy & Communications Intern
The Alternative Mobile Services Association (AMSA) is the national trade association representing mobile crisis programs and their stakeholders, including first responders, public health professionals, and public safety thought leaders.
AMSA is seeking a Policy & Communications Intern for Winter and/or Spring Quarters 2026. Preference will be given to candidates able to commit to two consecutive quarters. Applicants should have educational, work, or volunteer experience in political science, communications, or humanities, and should be familiar with mobile crisis services prior to applying.
Location & Hours:
- Fully virtual; interns provide their own equipment and internet.
- 16 hours per week.
- Interns will manage their own time, meet deadlines, and attend weekly supervisory meetings and additional scheduled meetings as required.
Expectations:
- Respond to inquiries within one business day.
- Follow detailed technical instructions and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Complete assigned tasks reliably and on schedule.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Stipend: $1,000 per quarter.
- Additional: Letter of recommendation upon completion of tasks

Internship Tasks:
1. Update the AMSA Compendium
The Compendium is an online repository containing thousands of links, articles, and texts on mobile crisis work in the U.S.
- Tools: Google Workspace (Docs, Gmail), Substack, WordPress
- Responsibilities: Add new texts provided by staff and volunteers; correspond with program directors to secure additional resources
2. Build the AMSA Legislative Tracker
The Tracker is a comprehensive record of all state laws and bills relevant to mobile crisis work.
- Tools: LegiScan, PDF conversion tools, Google Workspace (Docs, Gmail)
- Responsibilities: Compile and maintain legislative information accurately and systematically
3. Administrative Support for Relationship and Membership Management
Support on tasks related to managing a growing network of 100+ members and partners.
- Tools: Google Workspace (Sheets), Little Green Light, Substack
- Responsibilities: Complete specific delegated tasks to support the maintenance of relationship management records.
