Team Engagement & Service Coordinator 

Vermont Housing and Conservation Board AmeriCorps, Montpelier

The primary goals of this position are to 1) create a meaningful and impactful term of service for all VHCB AmeriCorps members by fostering a strong connection to the Program and supporting members in achieving their professional and personal goals 2) build connections and deepen program impact between the VHCB AmeriCorps Program and community by coordinating and leading service projects 3) complete an extensive Independent Service Project. Additional responsibilities include: identifying member needs and connecting them with training and resources; assisting members with on-site projects; providing peer support and guidance; and fostering collaboration and connection among the cohort. The Leader will serve as a liaison between the Program staff and AmeriCorps Members playing a key role in creating a positive and impactful service experience for all participants. 

This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The VHCB AmeriCorps program supports the innovative dual-goal approach to creating stable affordable housing opportunities for Vermont residents while preserving the natural and working landscape. VHCB AmeriCorps is a national service program that places members with non-profit housing or land conservation organizations around the state. Serving on the front lines of community-based organizations, VHCB AmeriCorps members energize, engage, and empower residents to address unmet needs at the local level, collectively creating positive change and building a healthy future for Vermont.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop and coordinate service projects for VHCB AmeriCorps cohort including: annual Spring Service Day, 9/11 Day of Service, and other projects based on community need and interest
  • Conduct one-on-one site visits with each VHCB AmeriCorps Member at least twice during service term; assist members with on-site projects. 
  • Coordinate program initiatives focused on member professional development; tasks include tracking progress, peer support, and identifying trainings and resources to support member goals. 
  • Conduct outreach and engage community members and nonprofit organizations by representing program at events (i.e. tabling), developing outreach materials, and promoting program’s mission through other engagement efforts. 
  • Support program staff in delivering training and events for the cohort by coordinating logistics (i.e. location, agenda, catering), developing member activities (i.e. icebreakers), assisting with setup and breakdown, and collecting member feedback. 
  • Complete an extensive Independent Service Project (ISP), a self-designed direct service community project in support of the mission of the program. 
  • Plan and implement member appreciation efforts, including end-of-service recognition packets and regularly highlighting member achievements throughout the term.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator to share program mission and impact, highlight stories of service and engage new audiences through social media, newsletters, and other innovative methods.
  • Develop and implement opportunities to foster member connection and collaboration through special events, service discussions, and cohort gatherings.
  • Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Program Initiatives & outreach activities to promote AmeriCorps.
  • Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities. 
  • Submit bi-weekly timesheets.
  • Complete all enrollment and exit requirements.

Time & Service Requirements

Approximately 40 hours per week served in a variety of settings including: VHCB office, program events, field projects, on-site with members, conducting outreach, and meeting with potential community collaborators. The VHCB AmeriCorps program is a small team with two staff members, making this role integral to the program’s success. Service is scheduled during regular business hours with rare weekend hours required. Occasional overnight and/or evening activities required. Schedule may be flexible to meet member’s needs. A teleservice arrangement is available in accordance with VHCB AmeriCorps policy with the expectation that member will be in office or field setting at least 3 times a week.
