Position: Seabed 2030 Data & Research Intern (PART-TIME)
Schedule: 10-15 hours per week, must be extremely flexible in work hours in order to collaborate with team members around the world (can set a routine upon hire that works for all parties)
Compensation: $15/hr USD

Employment Description:
Join global 501(c)(3), The International SeaKeepers Society as a Seabed 2030 Data & Research Intern and contribute to a United Nations Decade of Ocean Science Action Project. In this role, you will support the collection and submission of bathymetric data from our global fleet of private vessels, helping to advance ocean mapping efforts worldwide. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to apply and develop computer science skills in a real-world environmental context while collaborating with international teams and partners such as the International Hydrographic Organization and NOAA. Ideal candidates are organized, eager to learn, and passionate about marine conservation and programming.
Responsibilities:
Utilize publicly available software tools (primarily sourced from GitHub) to perform data transformations via the command line.
Monitor and update shared progress tracking documents to support team coordination and efficiency.
Upload, organize, and maintain files within shared cloud-based storage systems to ensure accurate and accessible records.
Collaborate with SeaKeepers’ Seabed 2030 Interns and global staff to process and submit bathymetric data from the private vessel fleet to the Data Center for Digital Bathymetry.
Desired Qualities:
Interest or experience in command-line coding or related programming tools.
Access to a personal computer suitable for data processing tasks.
Availability of 10–15 hours per week.
Eagerness to learn and develop new skills in computer programming and data handling.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to track tasks and meet deadlines.
Enthusiasm for contributing to the development or improvement of programming solutions when feasible.
Passion for ocean and marine conservation.
