Creative Writing, Storytelling and Spoken Word Focus
Position Summary:
Raw Talent Performing Arts is seeking a dynamic and passionate Spoken Word & Creative Writing Teaching Artist to lead weekly sessions designed to empower youth through self-expression, storytelling, and performance. This role encourages students to explore their voices, cultivate confidence, and transform personal experiences into creative works that will be showcased in a culminating performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate engaging weekly creative writing and spoken word sessions for youth (ages 10–18).
Teach poetic structure, literary techniques, and performance skills through culturally responsive practices.
Incorporate social-emotional learning, self-awareness, and identity development in each lesson.
Support students in creating original poems, monologues, or group pieces for the final showcase.
Collaborate with site coordinators and other teaching artists to align curriculum with overall program themes.
Track attendance, student progress, and report session updates to the Executive Director.
Attend planning meetings and the culminating event performance.
Qualifications:
Minimum 1–2 years of experience as a teaching artist, poet, or creative writing instructor.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds.
Strong performance and facilitation skills with the ability to build a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Reliable transportation (required for mileage reimbursement).
Work Environment:
This position takes place in school and/or community-based settings. Candidates must be comfortable engaging with youth in interactive and creative sessions.
