2026 Summer Intern, Customer Insights and Behavioral Science (Remote)

To support the Customer Insights Team, we are seeking an Intern, Customer Insights and Behavioral Science to work and learn within our Utility Programs and Services (UPS) division. The Intern will support qualitative, quantitative, and behavioral science research under the guidance of the larger Customer Insights and Behavioral Science Team at ICF. Research findings and insights are used to inform and enhance the work done by ICF program implementation and marketing teams to provide solutions for our utility clients. In this position, you will work on a range of research projects focused on the development of new information and insights using best-in-class research practices.  

 

This is an entry-level, 10-week, full-time internship expected to begin in June and end in August. The internship can be fully remote from any U.S. location.  

 

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Supporting quantitative data collection research activities, including sample design and online survey instrument development. 
  • Supporting qualitative customer research, including in-depth interviews, triads, user testing, and customer journey mapping involving the development of interview guides, and sampling designs. 
  • Conducting analysis and reporting, identifying key themes describing the importance or value of those findings in solving program challenges.  
  • Using data visualization in creating infographics, customer journey maps, and other creative materials and power point presentations.  
  • Applying strong writing and communication skills, including the ability to write concise and impactful reports. 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • By start date, a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours is required preferably social/behavioral science research, environmental science, energy, public policy, marketing majors or related subjects. 
  • Must be able to pass any required background check(s), which may include drug screening. 
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Interest in energy efficiency, clean energy, and/or demand response programs   
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and research reporting capabilities. 
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills  
  • Ability to take initiative and work well independently, collaboratively, and remotely 
  • Experience with MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Viso, and Excel) 
  • Coursework or extracurricular involvement related to climate communication, human research, or consumer behavior is a plus 
  • Knowledge or experience in survey research software (Qualtrics, Alchemer) and data analysis software (SPSS, R, etc.), a plus but not required
