Communications And Development Manager

Position: Communications and Development Manager

Location: 552 Southern Blvd., Bronx, NY 10455 | Hybrid Schedule
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Projected salary: $70k – 80K

Position Summary

Health People seeks a strategic, dynamic, and detail-oriented Communications and Development Manager to advance the organization’s mission through robust communications, brand strategy, and development initiatives. This is a pivotal role for a seasoned professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about community health, and exhibits a deep commitment to social justice. The position plays a leadership role in managing integrated communications across platforms and supporting the cultivation of philanthropic relationships essential for organizational growth.

 

Core Responsibilities

Communications Strategy (60%)

  • Lead the creation, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive communications strategy to enhance Health People’s visibility and impact across digital, print, and public channels.
  • Oversee management and regular updating of the organization’s website, social media platforms, blogs, and e-newsletters; ensure consistency with brand standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Generate compelling, mission-driven content for press releases, donor communications, program collateral, and campaign materials.
  • Analyze communications metrics and prepare performance reports; use data to inform continuous improvement of campaigns and outreach efforts. 
  • Maintain up-to-date media contact lists, monitor media coverage, and proactively cultivate media relationships.
  • Manage production of print and digital collateral for annual reports, program promotions, event invitations, and fundraising appeals.

 

Fundraising and Development (30%)

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and board on the development and execution of fundraising strategies, including donor engagement, annual campaigns, and grant support.
  • Coordinate logistics for fundraising events, ensuring effective marketing and successful donor experiences.
  • Oversee donor acknowledgment processes and support donor stewardship through personalized communication.
  • Support identification and cultivation of new funding prospects, including individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. 
  • Manage donor database, ensuring accurate gift tracking and regulatory compliance.

 

Administrative and Collaborative Functions (10%)

  • Provide copyediting and quality assurance for communications, grant proposals, and public statements.
  • Collaborate with program teams and leadership to ensure alignment of messaging and programmatic priorities.
  • Serve as a communications advisor for organizational initiatives and special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit communications, public relations, development, or closely related field, preferably within a mission-driven organization.
  • Proven ability to independently develop and execute multi-channel communications strategies.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and project management skills; detail-oriented with a strong grasp of grammar and brand-centered storytelling.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Canva, and nonprofit CRM platforms; strong command of digital marketing analytics tools.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully across teams and audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, non-profit management, public health, or a related field required – highly relevant experience can substitute for degree requirements.
