
Program Intern
Reporting to the Vice President of Programs and programmatic staff, the Program Intern will support the grantmaking program of Archstone Foundation by conducting analysis and research of aging issues. The Program Intern will participate in the grant review process, including review of letters of inquiry and grant proposals, performing due diligence activities, and providing analytical and research assistance. The Program Intern will also participate and observe the grantmaking process by assisting in monitoring grants through review of interim reports and analysis of evaluations to ensure programmatic objectives are achieved.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Foundation’s program team in researching aging issues and developing briefs on topics relevant to the Foundation’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives;
- Develop an understanding of philanthropy and the Foundation’s funding guidelines;
- Respond to inquiries regarding grantmaking policies and procedures;
- Review grant inquiries and letters of intent and perform due diligence to determine whether the program meets the Foundation’s objectives, and making recommendations to program team whether to pursue the applicant as a potential proposal;
- Compile information specific to letters of intent and grant proposals: reviewing applications, collecting background information, scheduling and participating in site visits with Program Officers as needed and conducting additional research specific to grant proposal (e.g., online, associations, philanthropy);
- Synthesize research and documentation and prepare written summaries, with programmatic supervision, for the Board;
- Under guidance from program staff, facilitate grant monitoring: reviewing progress reports, following-up with grantee to obtain additional information, and ensuring grantee compliance with the grant agreement;
- Assist the program team with the development of requests for proposals and new funding opportunities;
- Assist in closed grant review process for grants as they reach completion;
- Complete program-related research and special projects as assigned;
- Assist with communications-related activities such as website review, blog, and social media; and
- Present recommendations and findings to colleagues at meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS: The individual shall have excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to work independently, the ability to multitask and shall be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Social Media applications). The individual shall also possess a strong work ethic, enthusiasm for the subject matter, and a sincere dedication to the Foundation’s mission.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of two years of prior work history at your university or in the community, preferably in the field of aging and/or health programs;
- Ability to multi-task and operate within a deadline-orientated environment;
- Excellent written and verbal skills;
- Creativity and strategic thinking skills; and
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with colleagues, prospective grantees, Board members, and the general public.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
In pursuit of an advanced degree in a field relevant to health and aging is preferred.

SALARY: $20 to $22 per hour depending on qualifications.
