Maintenance Specialist (Tree Crew)
Description
Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide maintenance of trees on City property and specifically within the City’s park system. Employees in this classification perform manual work and are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of specialized equipment as well as proper methods, procedures and techniques related to tree care maintenance. Work frequently includes the performance of heavy lifting and other strenuous tasks.
Days/Hours: Monday through Friday, 7 AM - 3:30 PM
Examples of Duties
- Maintain the trees of City parks and public properties through a program of routine maintenance and inspection based on all applicable standards and codes.
- Operates, maintains and services equipment including, but not limited to aerial lifts, chainsaws, power pruners, brush chippers, loader or combination units, skid steer loaders, stump grinder, dump trucks, vehicle/trailer combinations, water truck and other tools and equipment related to the job.
- Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and of effective precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents.
- Knowledge of the hazards involved in the use of heavy equipment and of the safety precautions that need to be taken.
- Knowledge of setting up and maintaining Temporary Traffic Control devices and work zones.
- Ability to understand, follow and carry out oral and written instructions related to maintenance operations.
- Complete assignments in a safe and timely manner, meeting quality standards.
- Continue development of jobs skills and knowledge related to tree care maintenance through various training programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, the general public and City officials.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Demonstrated ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Florida Class "B" CDL License preferred. Acceptable driving record. Experience in tree maintenance, landscape maintenance and use of tools and equipment related to tree care maintenance and operations is required.
Supplemental Information
Work environment involves significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling objects, pushing, and pulling. Physical strength and ability sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions, diverse terrain and/or other adverse conditions. Ability to move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
