Product Designer
About Us Umagine is building a new class of CNC machines and the software layer that powers autonomous factories. By rethinking both hardware and software from first principles, we’re unlocking faster, cheaper, and higher-quality manufacturing. We believe intuitive software is critical for scaling manufacturing autonomy.
Role
We’re hiring a Product Designer to lead the UX and UI of our ERP-style governance software. You will deeply understand the workflows of machinists, shop managers, and customers, and translate those into intuitive user experiences. You’ll collaborate closely with full-stack engineers, robotics experts, and our leadership team to design the digital layer of the factory of the future.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of Umagine’s ERP/governance software, from wireframes to polished UI.
- Conduct user research with internal staff and external customers to understand workflows.
- Translate complex manufacturing processes into simple, intuitive software interactions.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs (Figma or similar).
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are implemented effectively.
- Establish a consistent design language and component library for the platform.
- Balance usability, aesthetics, and performance for both web and internal tools.
Requirements
- 2+ years in UX/UI or product design (internship or professional).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design process and shipped products.
- Proficiency in Figma (or similar tools) for wireframing, prototyping, and UI design.
- Strong user research and interviewing skills.
- Ability to translate messy workflows into clean, usable interfaces.
- Excitement about industrial tech, ERP systems, or complex problem spaces.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing enterprise software or internal tools.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, robotics, or data-heavy workflows.
- Basic front-end knowledge (React/Next.js) to work closely with engineers.
- Experience setting up design systems for fast-moving teams.
Compensation
- Paid trial period (2–3 months) with full-time (40 hrs/week) expectation
- Stipend-based compensation during the trial
- Upon successful completion, transition to full-time salaried role with equity
- Compensation for the full-time role will be commensurate with experience and scope of responsibility
