
Marketing/Communications Intern
Job Summary
The Chamber values being able to give students meaningful experience in the workplace. Therefore, we offer paid internships to college students interested in pursuing careers in a related field. The function of the intern is to learn and practice activities of the Communications Department, as well as gain valuable experience in the operations of a business-support, non-profit organization.
Communications Assistance (60%):
- Assists in executing the Chamber’s weekly communications plan, including email blasts and electronic newsletters
- Assists in creating content for social media
- Submits calendar of events to local media, on a monthly basis
- Maintains media files and tracks public relations activities for monthly reports
- Downloads, edits and organizes all event photos
- Assists with compiling data for monthly analytics
- Assists with research and other special projects, as assigned
General Office / Event Assistance (40%):
- Assists Office Administrator with filing, printing invoices, stuffing envelopes for mailings, etc.
- Assists Director of Events by helping to set up for monthly luncheons, Business After Hours (if student’s schedule allows) and in-office meetings
- Tracks and maintains inventory of event supplies, including creating table signage, nametags, etc.
- Assists with answering front desk phone and greeting guests as needed
- Assists with general errands, such as picking up supplies, making bank deposits, etc.
- Assists in general office upkeep (kitchen, conference room, storage and work room)
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; enrolled in a local university
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Accuracy, commitment and punctuality
Required software skills include Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
Communications, public relations, marketing or graphic design majors preferred
Strong communications and creative skills
Additional software skills such as Canva, Constant Contact, PowerPoint
Experience in creating and editing video content a plus
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Work is performed in typical interior/office work environment
Some outside work required, driving a car, etc. (will be reimbursed for mileage)
Little physical effort is required
Hours:
10- 20 hours per week, with specific days/times dependent on student’s class schedule
Additional hours may be available for 1-2 weeks leading up to an annual event or to compensate for staff vacations, travel, etc.
