Duties include:
- Monitor scanners, social media, and incoming tips to identify breaking news and developing stories.
- Coordinate coverage by assigning reporters, photographers, and crews to stories in real time.
- Serve as a communication hub for the newsroom, ensuring smooth information flow and accuracy.
- Develop strong relationships with local law enforcement, emergency officials, and community sources.
- Write, edit, and publish timely, accurate, and engaging content to our website, app, and social media platforms.
- Optimize stories with SEO best practices and compelling visuals.
- Engage with our audience online to grow and strengthen Louisiana First News’ digital presence.
- Craft breaking news alerts and push notifications to keep our viewers informed instantly.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- Minimum two years’ experience in news operations
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Flexibility to work any shift
Successful Candidates:
- Demonstrate ability to identify potential stories, research information, follow-up on ongoing stories.
- Have strong news judgment, organization skills and ability to communicate with the public and newsroom staff.
- Needs strong journalistic writing skills and understanding of AP style.
- Multi-task well and prioritize under deadline.
