Intern Therapist 

Job Summary: 

Support the delivery of ABA therapy and implementation of student programs under supervision, ensuring safety and assisting with case documentation, progress monitoring, and family communication. Participate in required physical interventions, trainings, and general administrative tasks.

 

Essential Duties

Clinical

  • Provide Applied Behavior Analysis therapy 30 hours per week
  • Thorough knowledge and competent implementation of all student programs and behavior management guidelines
  • Ensure all students’ safety and implement all safety procedures
  • Incorporate specific objectives into context of ongoing activities (if applicable) and create opportunities for generalization and maintenance of skills
  • Participate in clinical/educational meetings and trainings
  • Conduct home visits and trainings with case student and family, as needed
  • Monitor progress on student’s individual educational and behavioral goals 
  • Present regular case review at team meetings

Case Management

  • Maintain student-specific notebook including data systems, program materials, and reinforcers
  • Record (daily) and summarize (weekly) all student data and maintain data graphs in student notebooks 
  • Write quarterly progress reports and assist with annual individualized education plans, as needed
  • Complete assessments as prescribed by clinical supervisors
  • Communicate with parents of case student and relay parent information to supervisor, as needed
  • Participate in monthly management by objective (MBO) meetings with supervisor
  • Participate in family clinic for case student and back up case student as appropriate

Physical

The physical requirements here are representative of those that must be met by an intern to successfully perform the essential functions of all direct-care therapy positions.

  • Administer protective holds, movements and carries
  • Assist student inside the swimming pool for swimming activity
  • Block student movements against the student’s weight (40-250 pounds)
  • Physical interventions in response to aggressive and self-injurious behavior 
  • Able to move quickly and confidently to intervene when situations requiring protective holds and/or movements are deemed necessary
  • Pursue a running student when necessary
  • Successfully complete CALM training (non-violent self-defense). The training has a strong physical component,
  • including but not limited to: pivoting, knee squats, shuffling front and backwards, carrying people, taking down a person to the floor and stabilizing people in a prone position
  •  General
  • Operation of office and administrative equipment may be required
  • Punctual and competent completion of all assignments
  • Create and complete timesheets on a biweekly basis and submit to supervisor for approval
  • Behave respectfully and sensitively to cultural and religious norms and values at all times

Internship Application Requirements

  • Intern applicant should be a graduating student who is in their final semester or final year
  • The degree major should be either Psychology (ABA) or Education (e.g., Special Education, Primary/Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, etc.).
  • Priority given to UAE Nationals
  • A GPA of 3.1 and above  
  • A minimum commitment of 3 months
  • Internship of 5 days per week, aligned with standard employee work hours
