Intern - Broward County - Human Rights Office - Office Support Specialist

Human Rights Office – 1 slot – Intern will need to be a good writer and will work with a kind team of legal professionals who assist with resolving community complaints. Best for a paralegal/law student. 

The Housing Options, Solutions, Support Division (HOSS-D) in partnership with the community, works to assist Broward County homeless in finding safe, affordable, and clean new lodging and to ensure Broward County constituents’ rights are respected. All HOSS-D sections work closely with other governmental, state, and local organizations to address the root causes of homelessness and how to create and enhance sustainable solutions. In addition, our Human Rights team works to ensure that Broward County residents are not subject to unlawful discrimination in employment, housing or public accommodations.

Internship includes quite exciting work including assisting with inputting documents in the database, summarizing confidential interviews and documents, reviewing legal facts, and editing final investigative reports. Interns will work with HOSS-D staff to complete the administrative hearing investigatory process for fair housing complaints and evaluate possible outcomes for each case.​​

Eligibility: Must be an enrolled student in your higher education institution at the time of application and during internship. We cannot take volunteers or alumni if you are not registered currently. 

This is an unpaid internship. However, the County may have funds to provide students with a stipend of $500 at completion. Student may also qualify for Career Source Broward payout program and earn up to $17 per hour. Inquire when you apply.

Students must participate in this internship for two semesters. And must be able to commit to at least 2 days per week, with a MINIMUM of 10 hours up to a maximum of 20 hours every week.
