Part-Time Freelance Videographer & Photographer
Darien Library seeks a creative, mission-driven, and highly organized individual to serve as a Part-Time Freelance Videographer & Photographer. Working under the supervision of the Head of User Experience & Marketing, the ideal candidate will work on a flexible schedule to capture and produce photo and video content that supports the Library’s communications, outreach, and development efforts across digital and print platforms. The successful candidate has a passion for compelling visual storytelling, and a growth-mindset with a willingness to evolve content to meet strategic goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Head of UX & Marketing in executing the Library’s communications strategy.
- Collaborate with the Digital Content Creator—who manages all post-production editing of video and photo content—to schedule and execute marketing shoots in alignment with the overall marketing calendar.
- Operate professional lighting, sound, and camera equipment as needed.
- Capture high-quality video and photos to produce polished, mission-aligned content for:
- Social media and the Library’s website
- E-newsletters and donor communications
- Annual reports and special campaigns
- Capture engaging video and photos at a variety of Library programs and initiatives, including:
- Library program offerings such as author talks, community workshops, lectures, storytimes, and special events
- Behind-the-scenes Library activities
- Ensure consistent visual branding and quality.
- Maintain usage rights documentation and release forms when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Demonstrated experience in both photography and videography; experience with nonprofit organizations preferred.
- Strong portfolio that includes event coverage and storytelling content.
- Proficiency with DSLR camera and associated gear.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to Darien Library’s motto of “Kindness First” when working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize tasks as directed by the Head of UX and Marketing.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Creative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with no benefits. The candidate will work on-site at the Library approximately 5—10 hours per week including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, depending on event scheduling and project needs.
Salary
$30—$35 per hour, commensurate with experience.
