Environmental Health Specialist I/II/III

Position Information

 

Salary:
Level I: $2,397.60 - $2,865.35, paid bi-weekly
Level II: $2,649.10 - $3,165.92, paid bi-weekly
Level III: $2,926.98 - $3,498.01, paid bi-weekly

 

Examinations:
Appraisal (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any of the following: Investigation, oral examination and/or application review.  

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards

Level I:Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services, Environmental Health Section is required.


Level II:Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services, Environmental Health Section is required AND one (1) year of experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist I in the Kern County classification system. 

 

Level III:Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist as issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services, Environmental Health Section AND two (2) years of experience equivalent to Environmental Employment Standards Health Specialist I or Hazardous Materials Specialist I in the Kern County classification system or one (1) year of experience equivalent to Environmental Health Specialist II or Hazardous Materials Specialist II in the Kern County classification system.

 

Additional Requirements for All Levels:
Positions assigned to milk and dairy inspection require additional certification as a State of California Registered Dairy Inspector.

Additional Information

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
