Program Manager

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent will manage grant-funded programs; implement and execute daily operations and administration of grant-funded programs; communicate information related to both institution and specific grant-funded program objectives and results; allocate work; prepare interim, quarterly and annual reports; review and provide feedback for manuscripts and technical reports; conduct field research or visit field sites for related programs; design and develop areas of research and grant-funded components providing professional coordination and leadership; play a crucial role in overseeing sponsored projects; knows the entire scope of work, deliverables, and requirements of projects; facilitates and may provide technical assistance to PIs, staff, and graduate assistants in water-related or geographic information science, graphics development, presentation skills, and project reporting; represents the institute at various meetings; works with collaborative teams; and develops integrated project plans and executes projects successfully. Serves as the principal point of contact for specific grant-funded projects ensuring the program's objectives are carried out and completed. Develops program's annual operating budgets and develops short- and long-term program objectives.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of contracts and grants preparation and management. Knowledge of management principles and practices.;
SKILLS: Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Program planning and implementation skills. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Employee development and performance management skills.;
ABILITIES: Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to provide technical coordination and management of development and/or implementation projects in area of expertise. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of grant and contract management. Familiar with National Science Foundation and US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture Sustainable Agricultural Systems grant programs.

 

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.; Required Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency: None; Required Certification/License:

 

Special Requirements of the Position
Must be able to obtain an NMSU driving permit within 30 days of employment.
Must be able to travel as needed.
Work a standard schedule of hours between Monday and Friday, 8-5 (may change slightly depending on business needs).
