Grant Research & Development Intern (Unpaid Internship)

About Daughters of Both Suns
Daughters of Both Suns is a trauma-informed, culturally rooted nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Black and Latina women—especially Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities—through bilingual mental health access, crisis care, and community healing. We provide therapy funding, virtual peer support, and a Resource Navigator program to address housing, food, reproductive health, and legal aid needs.
Position Summary
The Grant Research & Development Intern will support the organization’s fundraising strategy by identifying and applying to relevant grants that align with our mission and community impact. This is an excellent opportunity for students or emerging professionals interested in nonprofit development, social justice, and mental health equity.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research on public and private funding opportunities, including foundation, corporate, and government grants
Maintain an organized grant tracking spreadsheet with deadlines, application requirements, and funder details
Assist with drafting grant proposals, letters of intent, and supporting documents
Collaborate with the Program Director to gather data, stories, and impact metrics for proposals
Monitor upcoming grant cycles and eligibility criteria
Support the development of a grant calendar and submission schedule
Help prepare final reports and follow-up documentation for awarded grants
Participate in biweekly team check-ins and briefings
Skills & Qualifications
Strong research and writing skills
Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated
Passionate about mental health, racial equity, and community-based care
Ability to interpret grant requirements and summarize key points clearly
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
Prior experience with grant research/writing or fundraising is a plus, but not required
