This internship can be fully remote or hybrid. Our office is located in Washington, DC, with in-office opportunities on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

At EARTHDAY.ORG, you’ll join the world’s largest environmental movement, collaborating with a global nonprofit that works with over 50,000 partners in 192 countries. You’ll gain valuable experience writing for a variety of platforms and audiences, creating work that could be featured on our website, in official publications, and even picked up by media outlets.

What You'll Do

  • Articles & Features: Write 800-1200 word articles on assigned and self-selected environmental topics, blending research and creativity. Build your author portfolio with published pieces.
  • Prize Nominations: Craft robust nomination packets for prestigious environmental awards like the Goldman Environmental Prize. This year, we’ll nominate six candidates, and your work will play a pivotal role in preparing semifinal packets.
  • Collaborative Writing: Support cross-departmental efforts by contributing to emails, blog posts, and other written materials.

What You’ll Gain

  • Your own author page featuring your published work.
  • Opportunities for your writing to be picked up by official publications.
  • A chance to make an impact by showcasing the work of environmental heroes through award nominations.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to research and synthesize complex environmental topics.
  • Professionalism and a collaborative attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines for various writing projects.

How to Apply
Submit a Resume, a two paragraph statement of intent, and a writing sample. The intention statement should describe your experience and what you hope to get out of an internship. The writing sample should be journalistic or persuasive and not in the first person. Otherwise, the first 2 pages of a research paper will suffice.

The internship runs from September 2025 through December 2025, with flexible dates depending on your school schedule. The internship is unpaid but we offer support in obtaining credit if your institution supports it.
