Accounting Assistant Intern

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Accounting Assistant Intern will support the Accounting Team with accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and various other accounting functions. This role requires building strong, productive relationships with trade partners, business partners, and all McKee Homes departments. The intern will assist with process improvements and implementation efforts to ensure quality performance and enhance the overall experience for McKee associates, homeowners, customers, and trade partners. As a McKee team member, the Accounting Assistant Intern is also responsible for contributing to a premier customer experience by providing administrative support, maintaining clear communication, and actively collaborating with the team on initiatives that support internal and external stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the Month-End Checklist to support timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Help reconcile bank statements, vendor accounts, and other financial records to ensure accuracy
  • Support the accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice entry, payment tracking, and follow-ups
  • Organize and maintain financial documentation and ensure all records are properly filed and compliant with internal policies
  • Collaborate with accounting team members to review the General Ledger and Trial Balance for discrepancies or needed adjustments
  • Participate in job cost tracking and help ensure proper allocation of costs to construction projects
  • Assist with budget tracking and variance analysis for active communities and construction budgets
  • Shadow and interview various members of the Finance Department to gain insight into department functions and workflow
  • Support special accounting projects as assigned, such as audit preparation, internal reporting, or systems/data cleanup
  • Perform other general accounting duties as needed to support the department and gain hands-on experience in the residential construction industry
