Project Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and community-minded intern to support programming and historical documentation related to the Historic Rondo Community—a vibrant African American neighborhood in Saint Paul that was deeply affected by the construction of Interstate 94. The intern will assist in preserving and sharing the legacy, stories, and cultural contributions of Rondo while helping facilitate educational and cultural programming for the public.

Ideal Degrees

Historic Preservation Degree, Public Administration, English, Youth Studies, Education 

Responsibilities

Collaboration with Hallie Q Brown and other Rondo cultural organizations to document and preserve the historic legacy of Rondo. Effectively manage time.
Research, write, edit and submit complete narrative summary on the history of Rondo Community. 
Attend virtual meetings with MNHS and community staff- provide updates of progress, and receive feedback.
Conduct communication with community members
Support in the planning of community programs to share the cultural/historic legacy of the Rondo community 

Qualifications

Deep respect for and interest in African American history, particularly the history of the Rondo neighborhood and broader social justice issues. Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully with culturally diverse communities. Strong research, writing, and documentation skills. Experience or coursework in oral history, archival work, or qualitative research is preferred but not required. Strong research, writing, and documentation skills. Knowledge Intern is Expected to Gain

Gain insight into the legacy of the Historic Rondo neighborhood and the systemic challenges it faced—while helping preserve its powerful cultural contributions. Learn the behind-the-scenes process of organizing educational and cultural programming, from concept development to outreach and execution.
