Project Summary
We are seeking an intern to support establishing and nurturing trusting, mutually beneficial relationships with Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ communities across the state. This internship will focus primarily on supporting the Greater Minnesota Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ History Map (please insert hyperlink to map), with an emphasis on creating story entries based on community suggestions and assisting with project-related programming across the state. This position will include travel in Greater MN and transportation support is available.

History, Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature, Anthropology, Digital Communication and Media/Multimedia, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies
Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Inclusion and Community Engagement team,
-Work with the MNopedia Editor and Program Manager at MNHS to research and develop content for the project; review community story suggestions collected through our online form on a rolling basis
-Assist with planning and implementing community events in Greater Minnesota to raise awareness and increase engagement with the project
-Develop social media content to raise awareness of stories represented in the map and opportunities for communities to participate in the project
-Meet with MNHS staff and attend department meetings as needed
Qualifications
-Personal or professional experience engaging with underrepresented communities including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, LGBTQIA+, rural, and/or disability communities is strongly preferred.
-Experience and/or training in research technique and best practices, and is comfortable working with primary sources.
-Experience with event planning is preferred, though not required.
-Experience with digital storytelling is preferred, though not required.
-Experience with community engagement and public participation projects.
-Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings.
Knowledge Intern is Expected to Gain
-Familiarity with MNHS resources.
-Increased community engagement skills.
-Research, writing, and editing, best practices and skills building.
-Experience in a professional museum environment.
