Wordpress/PHP Developer
Infinite Armory is a fast-growing seed-stage startup building a trusted online marketplace for firearms, accessories, and kit. We’re looking for a part-time Wordpress/PHP developer to help us build the next set of features. We’re pushing the limits of what WordPress can do — not as a site builder, but as a lightweight application framework powering real marketplace functionality.
This is a remote, flexible-hours role ideal for someone who’s built actual web applications (not just themes) and enjoys contributing to a lean, async team. You’ll be primarily focused on back-end development — logic, database, and API layers — while our front-end team handles the UI.
What You’ll Do
- Work with and extend HivePress and build custom templates/functionality when it falls short
- Collaborate closely with the founder and current developers via Asana & Discord to scope, prioritize, and ship features
- Implement back-end features that improve marketplace functionality, moderation tools, listing workflows, and vendor tools
- Build and maintain back-end functionality for listings, transactions, moderation tools, and vendor features
- Focus primarily on back-end development — page templates, database modeling, business logic, and API integration — while the front-end is handled by our existing UI team
- Keep things lean, clean, and scalable — this isn’t your typical agency mess of 10 plugins stacked on duct tape
- Help integrate third-party APIs (e.g., payment processors, analytics, shipping tools)
- Debug and optimize database queries and backend performance
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience in PHP and custom WordPress development (not just tweaking themes)
- Experience building actual web applications, not just brochure or marketing sites — our use of WordPress is more like a lightweight application framework
- Familiarity with HivePress is a big plus, or the ability to get up to speed quickly
- Comfortable building and troubleshooting custom templates, shortcodes, and plugin logic
- Comfortable with low-level web architecture concepts — things like WebSockets, server configuration, performance optimization, and troubleshooting hosting environments
- Experience working in a remote team environment using tools like Git, Asana, and Discord — you know how to manage pull requests, do code reviews, and work collaboratively
- A bias toward practical, secure, scalable solutions over fancy frameworks
- Solid understanding of how marketplaces work (e.g., user roles, listings, transactions)
- Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and deliver consistent, iterative progress
- An interest in firearms, tactical gear, hunting, or night vision is a plus — not required, but it helps if you get the culture we're building for
Compensation
We’re open to two paths:
- If you’re looking for part-time, paid development work, that’s totally fine — we’re happy to bring on a solid contributor who can ship code, communicate well, and help us grow.
- But if you consider yourself CTO-level and are interested in having real skin in the game, we’re also open to an equity-based arrangement. That path would involve a higher level of commitment and ownership — including helping shape technical direction and scaling the platform long-term Our current use of WordPress & HivePress as an application framework was an MVP decision to move fast, but we expect to evolve into a more modern architecture as we adoption grows and the product matures.
Let us know where you’re at — we’re flexible for the right fit.
