Job Summary:

 

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 30 hours per week) Education Program Assistant 2 position for the Division of Extension and Engagement’s Extension Douglas County with Oregon State University (OSU ).

 

This Education Program Assistant 2 (EPA2) position is at the Oregon State University Division of Extension and Engagement’s (division) Extension Service Douglas County Office in Roseburg, Oregon.

 

The purpose of this EPA2 position is to support the OSU Extension Douglas County programs, working with academic and professional faculty planning, organizing, developing, and delivering educational programming and helping with volunteer management. This position provides critical support for the natural resources’ programs (small farms, master gardeners, and forestry) throughout the county. The work of the EPA2 is accomplished mostly in an office setting but will also include fieldwork, land visits, presentations, community outreach, and event coordination. This individual will meet frequently with regional colleagues to plan programs and respond to current program needs.

 

Active and effective communication with staff and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position.

 

This EPA2 assists with ensuring that educational programs and outreach activities serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with civil rights and language/visual access regulations.

What You Will Need

 

• Demonstrated interest, experience, or education in forestry, natural resources, small farms, and/or general agriculture.

• General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, collaborative work platforms, and professional office software such as or similar to Microsoft Applications.

• A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member with other professionals and community members.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Ability to communicate successfully and inclusively with broad and diverse groups with varying backgrounds and communication styles and expectations.

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

 

What We Would Like You to Have


 

• Demonstrated leadership experience with volunteer programs.

• Experience coordinating volunteers.

• Knowledge and skills in Agriculture and/or Forestry & Natural Resources.

• Prior participation in an Extension volunteer program.

• Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple digital communication systems, including website software, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

 

Flexibility to work non-standard hours (evenings and weekends) and in various outdoor settings. Evenings and weekends may be required based on programming needs, coordinating with the supervisor to adapt the work schedule to address community programming needs.

 

The ability to transport (lift and carry) up to 50 pounds of educational materials.

 

The Education Program Assistant has regular contact with the public, in person and by telephone or email, to promote awareness or interest in a program. This Education Program Assistant works collaboratively with volunteers.
