Veterinary Technician (Full-Time)

The Toledo Zoo is currently seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Technician to join our Animal Health & Nutrition Department. Under general supervision, the Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing direct assistance to the Director of Animal Health and Nutrition, Veterinarians, Curators, and Keepers in relation to medical care for the Zoo’s animal collection. This individual will assist in medical, surgical, and necropsy procedures, conduct lab work, order medications and supplies, perform clinical pathology and imaging procedures, monitor patients and maintain medical records. In addition, they will perform a variety of administrative functions to include producing required reports, attending meetings, filing records, and providing input/generating department standard operating procedures pertaining to hospital maintenance/quarantine/pre-shipment procedures.
This position reports to the Director of Animal Health & Nutrition, is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours per scheduled work week.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Completion of a two-year, approved Veterinary Technology program is required.
- Minimum of 3 years postgraduate, clinical experience preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in a zoological collection preferred.
- Must have National Certification and be able to obtain registration in the State of Ohio within 6 months of the start of employment.
- Must be current on rabies vaccinations, have a current negative TB test and ideally be up to date on Covid-19 boosters.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.
- Must be at least 21+ years of age.
