Grant Specialist

Job Overview:

The Grant Specialist at Feed My People will take full ownership of all aspects of the grant process, including researching funding opportunities, writing compelling proposals, managing reporting requirements, and ensuring compliance with funder guidelines. This position will report to Development Team management.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Grant Writing & Administration

  • Write compelling and tailored grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports that clearly communicate the organization’s mission, impact, and funding needs
  • Maintain and manage the grants calendar to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports
  • Coordinate grant application processes across departments, collecting and synthesizing program data, budgets, and supporting materials
  • Track grant progress, outcomes, and requirements to ensure compliance with funder guidelines and deadlines

 

Research & Strategy

  • Identify and evaluate new prospective funding opportunities through regular research
  • Stay informed of relevant trends in philanthropy, food insecurity, and nonprofit funding opportunities
  • Work collaboratively to align funding requests with organizational priorities and program goals

 

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with Development Team to:
    • Understand impact and translate it into persuasive narratives
    • Develop accurate budgets and financial documents for proposals
    • Assist in donor stewardship by supporting the development of funder communications and to perpetuate future grant opportunities

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field preferred but not required
  • Proven experience in grant writing and fundraising for nonprofits, preferably in the areas of food security, health, or social services
  • Applicants with a combination of education and experience or equivalent amount of experience are also encouraged to apply
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and grant tracking software; experience with donor databases is a plus
  • Collaborative and self-motivated, with a passion for advancing equitable access to food
