Field Instructor
The Pierce Institute's Field Instructor position is ideal for a college student looking to work a few hours a week in the late afternoons on weekdays and who enjoys working with children.
A Field Instructor for The Pierce Institute will provide STEM-based after-school activities to local elementary school campuses for several weeks at a stretch. Instructors will be trained on all activities, and they are expected to pick up equipment from our center in southwest Fort Worth, drive to the day's elementary school, set up, give a 1-hour class, then pack up and deliver the equipment back to our center. The typical hours are from 2:30 pm to 4:15 pm on weekdays. An instructor can choose to work between 2 and 5 days a week. Class sizes are usually capped at 12 students.
Some activities we provide include Beginner Robotics, Myth Busters Science Club, Magic and Card Tricks Club, Drone Adventure Club, Build Your Own Video Game, Battle Bots, and more. Again, all training is provided, though prior experience with low-level coding and robotics can be quite handy.
Clubs run from early September through mid-December, though some schools only allow us to come in for 6 weeks. In the Spring semester, clubs run late January through early May, again with some schools only allowing 6 weeks.
Due to the fact that different schools allow a different number of consecutive weeks, many schools haven't finalized their after-school club calendars yet, and an instructor can choose the number of days he/she wants to work, an exact schedule can't be pinned down just yet, but we can begin training in early August (which will occur at our center).
Depending on the level of skill and experience an instructor can bring to the classroom, compensation ranges from $12.00 to $15.00 an hour.
Candidates must be able to pass a background check and be willing to be fingerprinted by the TEA.
