Assistant Director of Student Financial Services/VA Coordinator

To assist the Director of Student Financial Services in providing a comprehensive program to assist students in obtaining funds and information from federal/state/private/institutional assistance programs.

Salary Schedule Placement:  Appropriate placement on Salary Scheduled - C3 02 ($52,418-$85,635) based on experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Provide counseling and assist students in applying for federal, state, private, and institutional financial assistance programs.
  2. Assist in the maintenance of accurate and confidential financial records on students in compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements.
  3. Assist in the maintenance of accurate and timely reporting procedures to federal and state agencies for the following programs: Pell Grant, FSEOG, FWSP, ANGEAP (National Guard), Veterans, State Grant, and scholarships.
  4. Assist in the administration of the Institutional Support Scholarships program in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  5. Assist in the selection of students and award funds from the FWS, FSEOG and SSIG programs.
  6. Assist in supervising the preparation of student payrolls monthly or each term for all financial aid programs.
  7. Keep informed of all regulations governing Student Financial Aid.
  8. Conduct or supervise electronic processing of financial aid records.
  9. Assist in the preparation of budgets for Federal Work-Study, FSEOG, and Pell Grant programs.
  10. Assist in the oversight of the FWS student employment program.
  11. Identify potential funding available through federal, state and local sources.
  12. Serve as Scholarship/Financial Aid Committee Chairman for the selection of scholarship recipients each term.
  13. Participate in pertinent local, state, regional and national organizations.
  14. Represent the college at community functions.
  15. Serve as member of committees as assigned.
  16. Support and implements the mission of the college.
  17. Manage (plan, budget, staff, evaluate) an office with a variety of functions
  18. Conduct research related to the financial aid field and generate activity reports
  19. Knowledge of regulations affecting financial aid programs in which the college participates
  20. In-depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid laws, rules, and regulations
  21. Other duties as assigned


The Assistant Director of Student Financial Services/VA Coordinator will be expected to work a flexible schedule, which 
may include day, evening, night and weekend hours. This job description is a general statement of the required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular basis. Qualifications

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial aid, student services, or similar in higher education
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM and systems associated with the work
  5. Broad experience across several disciplines:  financial aid, student services, registrars, admissions, academics is preferred

  1. Ability to work effectively with a wide spectrum of student and public population in stressful situations
  2. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and to work with highly confidential information
  3. Demonstrated experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously and preparing accurate reports
  4. Ability to manage conflict within the team objectively and by demonstrated ability to influence others
  5. Broad experience across several disciplines:  financial aid, student services, registrars, admissions, academics
  6. Strong planning, analytical, time management and organizational skills;
  7. Ability to represent the College professionally, use sound judgment, and make good decisions
  8. Ability to work under pressure of schedules, deadlines, and requirements for accuracy;
  9. Exercise a high degree of confidentiality, independent judgment, initiative, and effectively manage stress
  10. Valid driver license, ability to traverse campuses, travel as needed and work a flexible schedule
