What I liked
I absolutely loved working as an intern at Vimeo – I can’t say enough good things about my time there, and I can’t imagine any better intern experience. I worked as a member of the transcoding team under the larger heading of the video team, where I got to work on extremely relevant and interesting projects that impacted/will impact our transcoding process. Above all, I loved that I felt like a real employee, everything in the company felt so transparent, and everyone I met was unfailingly kind.
The intern program itself is very well put together. There were approximately 10 interns total, although we didn’t all start at the same time. Our recruiter (Gabriella) and our intern leader (Ginny) were both phenomenal, and they organized and came to many intern-specific activities with us, such as the lunch-and-learns, which were weekly and consisted of all the interns, Ginny and/or Gabriella, and someone from senior management (CEO, COO, etc) who talked to us about their career path, advice, and generally got to know us. We also went on an intern outing to a Mets game, and we participated in an intern video challenge.
I was overjoyed to find that I was presented with a job offer at the end of my internship (and, in fact, I spoke to four other interns, and they were also all presented with job offers at the end of their internships, even though all of us still have one year left of college). I haven’t participated in another extensive internship before, but I believe that this automatic reviewal process is both atypical and outstanding. The internship truly felt like a test-run and training for a job.
