What I liked

I enjoyed continuing my work with the Exploratory Studies Program. The staff were flexible and allowed me to work on projects based on my strengths and interests.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't be afraid to speak up about new ideas or recommendations you have for the program. The staff value your ideas and feedback.

At the beginning of the summer semester I was the only math tutor available so I felt very overwhelmed at times. I wish there had been more than 1 math tutor at a time during the whole semester.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten more time there, and was able to broaden my understanding of the work we were doing to a more in-depth understanding of structural analysis.

Graduate Research Assistant

August 2018 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I was able to meet with my mentor daily which is apparently uncommon at most universities. Because of this, it was the most productive summer I've ever had. I was able to work on multiple research projects and develop technical skills relating to MATLAB, motion capture, and the scientific method.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to test out of undergraduate courses. I came from an engineering background so I was forced to take anatomy I and II which were far too basic and didn't really add any value to my education.

Advice

There are multiple professors/researchers who are looking for undergraduate and graduate research assistants. Even if you're unsure of what you want to do with your life, reach out to people around campus and ask if anyone is looking for help.
