I loved the opportunity to be in a new city and learn about an industry I had no previous experience in.

FCA was great at providing opportunities for networking and career exploration.
What I wish was different
I wish the assignments I was given would have been more evenly spread out through the summer.

Student buyer
June 2020 • Auburn Hills, MI
What I liked
FCA took steps to ensure everyone’s safety in the light of the global pandemic and provided me with a laptop and phone to work from home. The team I was placed in is full of wonderful people, and people all across the organization offer often reach out to offer their help if they think you need it.
What I wish was different
I only wish I had applied last year so I could have experienced working in-person with everyone!
Advice
Don’t be afraid to ask questions! It may seem daunting at first but it’s better to reach out for help than struggle alone.

Financial Analyst Intern
June - September 2018 • Auburn Hills, MI
What I liked
Great experience, lots of responsibility, and lots of exposure
What I wish was different
More intern events, better housing, more frequent/stable workload, and better employees
Advice
Detroit is really fun, but is 45 minutes away from Auburn Hills which is basically the middle of nowhere. There are only a dozen finance interns, so be ready to get friendly with the abundant local-Michigan engineering interns.

Business Systems Analyst
May - August 2019 • Auburn Hills, MI
What I liked
I really like the company culture and how willing to help everyone is.
What I wish was different
I wish I had done a little more research on the different departments. This is nothing that FCA did wrong, but I rushed to get in what I wanted and FCA gave it to me instead of taking my time. That being said, the department that I was in gave me opportunities that I was not expecting. I learned so much and I am glad that I had the project that I had.
Advice
Don't be afraid to walk up the people at the FCA booths. The company might be big but the people there are very down to earth.

Product Development Engineering Intern
May - August 2019 • Auburn Hills, MI
What I liked
FCA did a great job of making their interns feel welcome and helping them expand their personal networks. Throughout the summer I was able to participate in many events that helped me meet new interns, coworkers, and leaders within the company.
Another thing that FCA did a good job of was helping me get acquainted with the projects I would be working on. At no point did I feel like I was being over-burdened or that I didn't have anyone to ask for help if I needed it.
What I wish was different
I wish that the intern program at FCA would have focused more on bridging the gap between interns and their senior managers. I would have appreciated more time face-to-face with my senior manager, so perhaps the intern program could encourage, require, and help arrange meetings between interns and their senior managers in the future.
Advice
Do not be afraid to ask for help! Your supervisors and coworkers do not wish to set you up for failure, and you should not be expected to know everything about a project when you are learning about it for the first time. Asking questions never hurts, and your manager will like to see that you are heavily invested in whatever you may be working on.

Stamping Engineering Program Management Intern
May - August 2019 • Auburn Hills, MI
What I liked
I like that I was able to immerse myself in the ways of the stamping engineering department of a major auto manufacturer. I was able to see the ins and outs and actually be involved in decisions that effect the ways and outcomes of the products they produce. I went to meetings and used company wide databases that contained important information to aid the stamping operations.
What I wish was different
I was able to do some shadowing to different suppliers and FCA facilities to see the work in action. However I wish the position was more involved in other aspects. I did find myself at time with little to do. I wish I had the opportunity to see more of the company and to have more of a solidified task on the day to day basis.
Advice
If there is one piece of advice I can give, it would be that you can never learn too much. Its always important to take notes when your mentors are talking and always be attentive during each minute of your day, even if you can't learn everything at once, you will learn by surrounding yourself in the material.

Supplier Quality Engineering Internship
May - August 2018 • Auburn Hills, MI
What I liked
The job required being a leader and left little room to doubt myself or what I was doing, so it was enriching in how to be a better person and to take control of a situation to get results.
What I wish was different
In terms of the job, there wasn't really anything that I can say could've made it better. The people from the company were welcoming and so helpful with all of my questions and concerns.
Advice
It was a great place to learn about the automotive industry, the fast-pace environment for engineers, and how to be a leader but also work with others. So for students coming in, don't be afraid to ask questions, and for the company, just keep being as welcoming.

Production Supervisor (Manufacturing)
June - August 2018 • Kokomo, IN
What I liked
The best part of this experience is that I got to work on my leadership skills and learned how to communicate with a variety of people with the intention of maximizing production. From day one I was given an enormous amount of responsibilities that may seem overwhelming to most people, but I enjoyed the challenge and appreciated the trust that my supervisors had in my abilities. It was also difficult for me to gain respect from my machine operators due to my age (most of them had worked there longer than I've been alive). However, it didn't take me very long to prove myself, which gave me confidence in my abilities as a leader..
What I wish was different
The company is unionized, which caused a lot of restrictions on my abilities as a plant supervisor. Anytime an operator was not doing what they were supposed to do, or refused to do the job that I had assigned, I had to work with the union to make sure I was not violating any part of their contracts in determining a course of action. Also, FCA has adopted a "World Class Management" business style, which in my opinion was extremely inefficient and disconnected the plant managers from what was actually happening on the floor.
Advice
Always put your best foot forward and look for the opportunities to grow. I knew going in that I was not interested in automobiles or manufacturing, but I took it as an opportunity to expand my leadership abilities and to see where my interests actually lie.

World Class Manufacturing Specialist - Intern
June - August 2018 • Belvidere, IL
What I liked
I loved my time with Fiat Chrysler. No two days were ever the same and I learned so much about mass market manufacturing. Everyone I worked with was very eager to share both their expertise and even a few laughs. The overall atmosphere in the plant was one of personal growth and company pride.
What I wish was different
I only wish I could have worked a couple more weeks to see some of my projects fully through!
Advice
When you start an internship, take time to talk to everyone. Each person has something unique to teach you, from the newest employee to the head of the company.
