Reynolds and Reynolds

IT technician

May 2022 • Kettering, OH

What I liked

Helped me grow my confidence in a professional setting.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more communication. I was promised that I would be able to intern in multiple different departments and when the time came I was stuck in a department that had nothing to do with my field of study and no option to switch. Very strict on their chain of command and you are not allowed to raise concerns outside of your direct supervisor. They also offer no benefits to interns or part-time associates.

Advice

Be sure you are going into the department you really want, otherwise, the little pay and the experience won't be worth it.

Finance and Insurance Operations Intern

June - August 2021 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

They provided opportunities to get involved outside of work, such as playing recreational volleyball games with your co-workers. I also enjoyed the autonomy that I was given, along with the supportive environment.

What I wish was different

I would have liked the work to be a little more diverse and challenging, but that work was what they were hiring interns for in my department.

Advice

There are extensive personality/cognitive ability tests that you must complete with your application. Be sure to set aside time for them.

Sales intern

May - August 2018 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

They start with a week long classroom-like setting where you learn about sales. Next, you are challenged to cold call within the office and map out sales strategies with a team of interns. Every intern is paired with a mentor so you are not alone in this process. The best part about this internship is that you are required to travel for three weeks. I was selected for Texas, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. There is also a sales competition at the end of the internship where the inside sales team ranks the interns through a series of mock sales calls. This is a fantastic internship for those who want to travel or learn about selling techniques.

Advice

There is a lot of down time where it can be easy to sit around. Be proactive and get to know people in the office, make your own calls, and learn about the industry. At the end of the intern they award prizes for professionalism and making connections within the office may lead to a full time offer (it did for me).

Sales Intern

May - August 2019 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

I loved how much Reynolds cares about their employees. Even as a sales intern we were given real tasks to help contribute to the business. We learned about inside and outside sales getting to shadow and travel with multiple account managers. I loved living with the other sales interns, we all got very close and I'm still friends with them today.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change anything about my experience.

Advice

Be open to feedback and ask as many questions as possible.

Software Developer Intern

May - August 2018 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

I was doing work similar to full time employees and I could see my contribution to the customers product.

What I wish was different

I wish the on site job training was a little more thorough. It's a learn by doing approach with little explanation.

Advice

Be prepared to be confused at first, and don't be afraid to ask for help.
