What I liked

Working as a Digital Design Specialist for Online Optimism was a truly beneficial experience as a graphic design student. I created a variety of design work for a plethora of clients and learned many things along the way. I also felt very appreciated in my role as a Specialist. I got to see my designs in the real world while working with a fun team and company!

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

To be a Specialist, you have to know your stuff! You should be able to know your way around design programs and fully understand the fundamentals of design while also being able to seek and take feedback on your work. Though the base to be a Specialist may seem to be a lot compared to other intern positions, the payoff is a truly great, professional experience!

What I liked

This is the best professional design experience I have had as a graphic design student. I felt like a valuable member of the Online Optimism team; I worked full-time for the whole summer doing real, meaningful work for real clients; and the company culture was great. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

What I wish was different

The communication between my boss and me was a little inefficient at first, but once we recognized this and implemented some changes in how he gave me assignments, our communication got a lot better. There's really not much I would've changed about my internship. I wish I could have been there longer.

Advice

This was truly a professional-level internship. I learned a lot, but I was also expected to have a lot of prior knowledge coming into this position. If you're applying for this program, it should be because you want a real-life, fast-paced, professional experience, not just another line on your resume.
