Life Care Centers of America

Certified Nurse Aide

June 2017 • Littleton, CO

What I liked

As a nursing student at California Baptist University, I thoroughly enjoy practicing my patient centered care skills at Life Care Center of Littleton during the summer and holidays. Here, I work with the geriatric population and assist the patients in completing their activities of daily living. This includes, but is not limited to getting them out of bed, dressed, showered, oral hygiene, etc. My time is spent interacting with recovering rehab patients, their families and other healthcare professionals. I was able to learn from those with a higher education all while building a platform for my future career as an RN.

What I wish was different

Reflecting on my time at this facility, I wish that we would have been fully staffed each day. When there are not enough employees, it places an abundant amount of pressure on the nurse aides to meet all patients needs at the same time. That being said, nursing burnout is experienced sooner than it should be leading the employees to be over worked and underpaid.

Advice

If you are considering a career in the healthcare profession this is a great area to get your "feet wet". It shows you what nurses, doctors, physicians assistances, PT's, OT's, and ST's experience on a daily basis and why they love what they do. It is an amazing space to learn if the health care profession is truly your calling.
