It gave me the opportunity to work with senior management, as well as make a real impact in the organization.
What I wish was different
I wish that I didn't have to perform as many clerical responsibilities.
Advice
You may be surprised how much you enjoy an industry that you never considered when looking at jobs.

Business Development Intern
June 2019 • Miami Lakes, FL
What I liked
They provide workshops often on different engineering disciplines that are fun to attend and are very informative and good to benefit on. The workshops include free lunch that which is a plus!
What I wish was different
Maybe in my area as being in the Business development department, might get a bit slow sometimes and they might not have much work for you, so sometimes you just don't have anything to do.
Advice
Try and talk to everybody in the office, everyone is really cool and will always be willing to help you whatever it is you are doing. Also don't be afraid to rotate in between areas or discipline, always be available to go to the field and you will learn a lot.

Environmental Consulting Intern
June - August 2018 • Philadelphia, PA
What I liked
Getting hands on experience with field work.
What I wish was different
I wish I had known who to start talking to in the beginning of my time there to ensure I had made the right connections and had the optimal experience (i.e. have the chance to explore more regions of the company to get a better feel for the industry).
Advice
Make sure to speak up early and often as to what you want to work on and why. Having the opportunity to explore the industry through a company like this does not come too often and it certainly doesn't hurt to put yourself out there and go for what you think you might like. Much better to do that during an internship than to find out half way through your career that you don't like what you do!

Co-op
January - August 2016 • Canonsburg, PA
What I liked
The internship was great in that there was plenty of work to be done. Once I proved that I was capable, I was given more work than I knew what to do with, which was great experience. They also pay over-time at time and a half if you work more than 40 hours, so you're fairly compensated for the work that you do.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been given the opportunity to move around between departments more. The office has geotechnical, environmental, land development, and traffic and I ended up spending all my time in land development even though I was originally told that I could bounce from department to department.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask for work - they won't keep you busy unless they know you aren't.

Site / Civil Co Op
May - August 2018 • Canonsburg, PA
What I liked
The people, the long-term projects I got to work on, field experience
What I wish was different
More long term projects
Advice
Be patient in the beginning and during slow times. You will have slow times and time where the work you're doing feels kind of pointless, but it will pay off when you get to be involved in bigger projects that are more rewarding.
