JUL is a very collaborative environment. You will work closely with your fellow interns and the staff. Everyone is invested in seeing you succeed. This internship is self-guided so what success is can be defined by you.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have known how much of a synchronous commitment the internship is. It was easy to adjust to, but I did not expect it based on the job description.
Advice
If you are interested in working at JUL be sure to have a solid idea of how best you can serve your community. Know what issues are close to your heart that you want to face head on. Being that the internship is self-guided you need to be determined. It will motivate you when deciding what events to plan, meeting deadlines, and collaborating with the staff.

What I liked
I was exposed to the rhythm and structure of remote work, a world that college students need to master before entering the post-COVID workforce. Further, I got the opportunity to use software I wasn't accustomed with before, showing me new tools I will definitely use in the future!
What I wish was different
If I were to continue working with the Jacksonville Urban League, I would appreciate the schedule of meetings and deadlines to be established sooner, and I would prefer to frontload more of the logistical configuration so that the actual work can begin sooner and with more clarity.
Advice
If you decide to take part in the League, familiarize yourself with all of the requirements early so that you can make a complete agenda and allocate time to reach all of your goals. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the whole of the agreement! If you are assisting the League with a sponsored project, review the terms of the contract to ensure that time is being well-spent. Generally, do your homework before the work period and before each week!

What I liked
I like all the experience I have gained so far. It is definitely a position in which time-management is your best friend, for this reason the internships are very valuable. Especially as a student who has almost finished their degree and needs to learn how the real world looks like after graduation. The environment is very professional and the supervisors are always willing to help.
What I wish was different
I wish the job structure was different, however, given that marketing is a relatively new field this opportunity is one I do not regret taking. More structure and organization can be used in most if not all positions.
Advice
One piece of advice I would share is to always be open to learning and keep an open mind. Your supervisors are there to help, don't be afraid to reach out and get the assistance you need!
