GNC

Sales Associate

What I liked

Working at GNC gave me some very good sales experience and helped me learn how to assist customers even when I may not necessarily know everything about their questions. I went in wanting to gain some experience in sales and it gave me exactly that.

What I wish was different

Training could have been a little bit more helpful and specific towards the job but overall it was good.

Advice

Go in with an open mind and be ready to learn a lot.

What I liked

sales environment with high use of KPI's.

What I wish was different

GNC is a niche store so volume is typically low. If this was higher it would allow for more practice and experience.

Sales Associate

May - August 2019 • Blackwood, NJ

What I liked

I liked talking to new people everyday, while still welcoming my regular customers back. I also liked to help people achieve the fitness and body they envision themselves in.

What I wish was different

I wish we had cheaper prices, for some people don't have the most funds to be spending on supplements. I also wish people would come into the store to ask questions, rather than them buy the wrong thing online.

Advice

Always talk to everyone, make conversation, and help them achieve what they came into the store for.

Sales Associate

March 2014 - October 2016 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I worked at GNC all through college when I went back to finish my degree. Was able to get it to apply for internship credit. I loved my job, I love health and fitness, and I love help people reach their fitness goals with the knowledge I have. Was able to learn some managerial functions while working at GNC, about shipping, pricing, and GNC's internal portal which had resources on products, trends, etc.

What I wish was different

Had more decision making role in what we ordered. I worked for a franchise owner so I understand why, but I also didn't push very much to hard to get that role responsibility.

Advice

Apply yourself, there are dry spells where no one will come in for awhile. Use that time wisely to learn about what you're doing. I focused my major in sales, so i learned the products, industry trends, and selling strategies and relationship building. I read books to keep my mine focused on building my skills as a sales professional and look to take a consultative approach. I had a coworker who was in school for biology, and he focused heavily on learning ingredients, how they effect us, and how they break down in the body. He had much deeper knowledge than I did, and we were both effective sales people while at GNC. I found my answers through effective questioning and solution based selling. Shared personal experience and what show your knowledge to the customer. It all comes down to find out what they want to achieve and over coming their objections.
