DoorDash

DoorDash Driver

July - August 2020 • Lawrenceville, GA

What I liked

I loved picking up and delivering food to customers.

What I wish was different

I wish that drivers were paid more money for longer routes.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is to set a time for a lunch break. It’s easy to forget that you need to eat while being focused on taking orders.

Delivery Sales worker

June 2022 • Collegeville, PA

What I liked

As a student who would use DoorDash sometimes to get food, I would be upset when my order came late. I liked to deliver orders on time or earlier because I know people are hungry. It also felt good when I would deliver food to someone who did not have the ability to pick up the food themself. I could also work when I wanted to so I could plan my working schedule around my normal schedule.

What I wish was different

I wish declining orders did not hurt the acceptance rate as bad. When active, orders are given to the best dasher available. It seems like dashers with higher acceptance rates get orders first and have the ability to accept or decline. Some orders were too far or my shift was about to end so I had to decline. Declining one order decrease my acceptance rate more than completing five orders.

Advice

The weekends are the busiest times for DoorDash. Schedule ahead earlier in the week to make sure you have time slots where you can work.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about my experience with doordash is to have Patience, there will be some rude people you come across but they're are many nice people you'll come across also!

Food Delivery Driver

May - August 2021 • Canton, OH

What I liked

The openness to schedule myself for the times that best suited me, being able to somewhat dictate my pay by the orders that I would accept, the amount of pay that could be achievable per hour

What I wish was different

I wish that the company was more considerate of their drivers and didn't hide orders from us. Even though we are by definition of the job "contractors", getting to pick the orders we want to take, DoorDash hides the true dollar amounts of certain orders from us drivers so we don't "cherry pick" the orders, even though that's the point of being a contractor.

Advice

It was a fun experience overall. I got to learn what it's like to deliver food for people without the total commitment to a job such as a pizza delivery driver. I learned that the pay you can get from DoorDashing can be quite worth the time spent, sometimes getting 30 dollars an hour for being out 6 hours or so, however you also have to equate the toll it is putting on your car in gas money, mileage, and overall wear of the car. It's not something I'd recommend doing full time for this reason, but for a bit of summer cash or a side hustle for some extra cash it's perfect!

May - August 2021 • Grayson, GA

What I liked

Being able to work on my own schedule

What I wish was different

Better communication between DoorDash and their drivers

Advice

Doordash is a great way to earn extra money, but don’t expect it to pay enough for it to be your only income unless you live in a big city

Delivery

June 2020 • Davis, CA

What I liked

It is really flexible to my schedule, I could work whenever I wanted and if I had scheduled a shift and didn't feel like it anymore I didn't have to go. I am my own boss!

What I wish was different

I wish there was a higher base pay for low tip orders.

Advice

Take the time to listen to podcasts or music! You will be spending a lot of time with yourself but it is really fun to see what is going on around your town and meet workers in multiple stores.
