Clackamas County

Temporary Park Assistant

July - September 2023 • Boring, OR

What I liked

I loved being a park ranger this summer. Our boss, Thomas, was a great leader and helped me learn so much. It was rewarding work to maintain Barton Park over the summer for the hundreds of guests that came through, and I was able to excel in my role.

What I wish was different

I was working 10.5 hour days, four days a week, and that was a lot. It's the normal shift-length for the county parks, but at the same time, it was an intense work schedule. Even at the end of the summer, I was still coming home exhausted.

Advice

Do your best! I had specific tasks every day that I had to complete, and by doing my best, I had a better experience at work and a better relationship with my boss. I also had emotional payout as well as the monetary gain of the job.
