DIA 2018 Summer Internship Program - Counterintelligence

Due to the large number of applications received in response to internship opportunities, this vacancy announcement will be closed when the first 100 applications are received, but no later than 08 September 2017. Additional applications may be considered, in the date/time order in which they are received, until the requisite number of qualified candidates are identified.

DIA’s Summer Internship Program provides current students the opportunity to gain practical work experience through research, report writing, briefing development and delivery, policy writing, and intelligence analysis. Interns are also exposed to the broader Intelligence Community through field trips, information sessions and panel discussions. Interns are appointed for a 10-12-week period from June thru August.

This Vacancy Announcement will be used to identify candidates to support the
Counterintelligence Career Field only during Summer 2018. Separate Vacancy Announcements are posted for other Career Fields for Summer 2018 internship opportunities. .

Counterintelligence Career Field

Interns assigned to the counterintelligence career field assist with detecting, identifying, assessing, exploiting, countering, and/or neutralizing the intelligence collection efforts/intelligence activities, sabotage, terrorist activities, and/or
assassination efforts of foreign powers, organizations, or persons directed against the Department of Defense and the US Government, its personnel, information, material, facilities and/or activities. They also participate in activities that conceal true identity and assert false information in order to support and enable authorized activities and lawful operations.

Career Specialties in the Counterintelligence Career field consist of the following:

- Counterintelligence Agent

Summer Interns will be considered for full-time permanent employment at the conclusion of the internship. However, permanent employment is not guaranteed and is subject to the needs of the Agency and available vacancies.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
This program is open only to current students enrolled in full-time undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking programs at accredited institutions in the following academic disciplines: Foreign Policy, International Relations, Homeland Security, Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Security Policy, Language, Business/Public Administration, Policy, Foreign Area Studies, Engineering or a related major.


• Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application, and employment.

• Undergraduate students must complete 60 semester hours or its equivalent at the time of employment.


• Meet the Agency’s following conditions of employment: satisfactory completion of a special security background investigation, counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, psychological assessment and drug test not later than May 18, 2018. A final offer of employment will not be extended until all conditions of employment have been successfully met. Please note that the special security background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological assessment and drug testing cannot be conducted if candidates are residing outside the continental United States. Therefore, candidates should not apply to this program if they are studying or working abroad 3-9 months prior to May 2018. Since this is a temporary appointment, interns will not receive employee benefits. All selected candidates are responsible for securing their own travel and lodging accommodations.

Indicate your preferred work location/s referring to the duty location list below (you may select up to two locations only): The majority of the internship opportunities will be located in the Washington D.C. area. The needs of the agency will govern your job placement.

After you select your desired geographic preference, in the comment field, indicate in 100 words or less why you are interested in Counterintelligence. Please include any work experience, studies, and extra-curricular activities that support your answer.

Deadlines

All application materials must be received by September 08, 2017 or when the first 100 applications are received. INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Applicants will be notified of their selection status no later than December 3, 2017. Participation in the Summer Internship Program is contingent upon successful completion of DIA's Conditions of Employment and award of a Top Secret/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance no later than May 18, 2018.

CURRENT FEDERAL EMPLOYEES
To be eligible to apply, all current Federal employees must be at, equivalent to, or higher than one of the advertised grades of this Vacancy Announcement. This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. Selectee(s) who are current Federal employees will be laterally reassigned to the new position if they are at one of the advertised grades. Those at a higher grade than the advertised position, will be asked to accept a voluntary change to the lower grade if selected.

All current and prior Federal employees must also submit a copy of their SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action that documents their appointment to or promotion to the highest grade held. Consideration for future advancement opportunities will be through DIA’s established promotion processes, according to established timeframes, advancement criteria and compensation parameters.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

All DIA employees are subject to an initial and a periodic counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.

All employees are required to sign an agreement not to disclose, in any fashion, classified information to unauthorized persons. An agreement is also required to authorize agency pre-publication review of certain material prior to disclosure during and after employment with DIA.
