Software Development & Business Administration Intern

Job Description- The ideal candidate for this internship will work on software development and data analysis. We are a boutique financial strategy and advanced life insurance solutions firm who is looking for the right candidate to help us optimize our current processes and develop new technology and software to effectively streamline our processes. We are looking for someone to join our team who is efficient and technologically savvy and who brings a creative approach to solve complex analytical problems.  

Responsibilities - May include, but are not limited to:

Software Development and Data Analytics Support:

  • Analyze needs and then design, test, and develop software to meet those needs
  • Recommend software upgrades for existing programs and systems
  • Design applications and software systems and plan how the pieces will work together
  • Create a variety of models and diagrams (such as flowcharts) that instruct users to utilize the custom software/ programs
  • Ensure that a program continues to function as designed through software maintenance/testing
  • Document every aspect of an application or a system as a reference for future maintenance and upgrades
  • Collaborate with other computer specialists and ARI Financial team members to create optimum software

General Administrative Support:

  • Filing, organizing, mailing, maintaining inventory, ordering and stocking general office supplies as well as data entry
  • Answering, screening and forwarding any incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed 

Profile - We are looking for a candidate with the following skills/experience:

  • Experienced software developer on Windows and Mac systems
  • Previous experience in data analysis and business development
  • Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail in understanding sets of data, patterns and developing methods of migrating them to a new system.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain flexible during times of change and react to project adjustments and alterations promptly, efficiently and positively.
  • Attention to detail is a must

Preferred Software Experience:

  • Advanced Excel knowledge: VBA experience; Macros; V-lookup; H-lookup, Pivot Tables, Advanced Formulas, etc.
  • Relational database development (such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, etc.), basic web technologies (HTML, XML, JSON, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Microsoft technologies; C#, .Net, MVC
  • Strong knowledge of object oriented programming is required.

Compensation - Interns will be compensated according to experience and skills. Compensation will consider whether the intern is receiving credit from the individual’s college or university.  

Interns will gain and/or improve upon their:

  • Experience supporting a wide range of office needs within the organization
  • Familiarity with ARI Financial business strategies
  • Understanding of a business, ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization in a professional office environment
  • Research, writing, editing, networking and general communication skills
  • General computer, database and organizational skills 

Hours – Approximately 20-25 hours a week. 

Required Education – Studying for associate degree or bachelor degree (preferred Computer Science degree or other related field)
